Monday's Moment of Wisdom - Pearl Number 27

"Having experiences to share with others and making memories are more important and valuable than having lots of money and owning expensive things" - My Auntie Di

At the weekend LC and traveled to Dorset to visit my Aunt for a bit of a catch up. We got talking about life and all it's ups and downs and she said something with me that really struck a chord. It's not word for word but its the gist of what she was saying and she is right, all the money, fancy gadgets and designer handbags in the world can't bring you true happiness. Having meaningful times that you can look back on and cherish bring greater value and contentment to your world, have people around you that you connect with can bring you more joy that the latest status symbol.

She said that it seems to her that people have all these things but they can just act as a band aid for the things that really make us feel worthy and successful and reminded me that life experiences like being a mother and travelling the world will bring me more contentment than, expensive shoes or eating at the latest fashionable restaurant. Sometimes on a night when neither me or the OH are working we take LC down the road to the pub for dinner, it's one of those chain pubs, you know, buy one meal get another free, it cheap, the food is crap mostly and the service a little hit and miss but the 3 of us have such a good time together talking about our day, singing and reading stories with LC watching her chatter away to everybody and making us laugh with her cute funny ways! These are the times that are worth more than anything money could buy us, we all have each other, we have built such cherished memories of our little families and hopefully, have years of exciting times to come, all of us together!

So this Christmas we have decide to concentrate on all the traditions, events and little things we can do to make it extra special, instead of buying heaps of expensive showy presents that LC doesn't even understand the value of, after all this could be our last Christmas in this country! We have her and each other just a few small gifts but are now planning lots of fun adventure and family time together to really enjoy the spirit of Christmas together! Some ideas are a visit to Santa, several popcorn and Christmas movie might, a trip on the Santa Express with LC's Granny and cousins and an official "lights on" ceremony for Grandad's spectacular outdoors Christmas lights, whole street are coming with mulled wine and mince pies, then there's Christmas baking with the other Grandma and hand delivering as many cards as we can to all our friends and family, this family time at Christmas with my little family is what I treasure, more than anything! What memories and experiences will you be making this Christmas?

5 Feel Good Things to Brighten your Day!

Thursday 22 November 2012

It seems November is shaping up to be quite dreary and although the festivities of Christmas are on the horizon there is still another week or so to get through of this month so here are 5 ways that you can instantly feel good about your day...

1. Switch off the TV and run yourself a steamy bubble bath using your favourite bubbles and soak, maybe take a glass of wine and a book/magazine to accompany you?

2. Wear your most expensive, sexy underwear! Doesn't matter where you are going, having some thing that makes you feel good against your skin will give you a boost, whether it's windy, rainy or just chilly!

3. Phone a friend or your mum or anyone who makes you smile, even if its just to talk about nothing, having the chance to talk your cares away always help to unload the stress on your shoulders after a long day!

4. Get moving, whether this is chasing around a toddler, taking the stairs instead of the lift, doing a work out DVD or walking the dog. Managing even 10-15 mins of exercise can do wonders in boosting your mood and making you feel great, dancing round the kitchen in you underwear while making your morning coffee definitely counts too!

5. Have a Christmas movie night in preparation of the up coming season to be jolly! Maybe treat yourself to some chocolates, snuggle under a blanket on the sofa and just relax and get excited about Santa coming! What's your favourite Christmas movie?

True Love Tuesday

Today's True Love Tuesday is celebrating a love connection that will brighten up anyone's day!
This love story is mine and you may or may not know that I recently got married in Canada to my live-in lover, father of my child and knight in shinning armour!

I wasn't going to post about it but so many people have asked me if I was going to so I decided to just let everyone have a brief sneak peak.

It was a rainy October day in Toronto, Hurricane Sandy was threatening to make an appearance and the temperature had dipped lower but we didn't let a bit of Canadian Fall weather dampen our day!

Our wedding was a delightfully cosy and intimate day, and as we said our vows nothing else around us mattered, it was like we were existing in our own little bubble and I could do it all again tomorrow! I have to admit though, I did have quite a few nerves and apprehensions before the big day but all of those anxieties have melted away and in fact life as a married couple has never felt so good!

Our future, and the world is now our oyster and this definitely feels like the start of an exciting new chapter for our family, we have some big plans for next year and 13 happens to be our family lucky number, we're looking forward to getting going this adventure together and seeing where married life takes us.

I would love to hear your thoughts, feelings, cherished memories and expectations of your wedding day so do share here if you want to....
